How to Choose Your First Setup as a Welding Student
Share
Just getting started and don't know what to buy? Here are 5 key things so you don't waste your money:
1. What type of welding are you going to learn?
Before buying, ask your instructor or check your curriculum: SMAW (Stick)? MIG? TIG? Each process uses different equipment.
2. Buy what you need, not the most expensive
If you're learning stick (SMAW), start with a basic, reliable inverter. You don't need the most powerful one, but you do need one that won't quit halfway through a bead.
3. Protect your eyes and hands (seriously!)
Don't skimp on this:
- Leather gloves
- Auto-darkening helmet (if you can)
Your eyes will thank you for the rest of your life.
4. Tanks and regulators only if you're welding with gas
If you're going to use MIG or TIG, then yes: argon or mix tank, regulator, safe clean hoses.
5. Buy where they advise you, not just sell to you
Here at RGV Welding we explain what suits you based on your level and budget. We don't want you to overspend. We want you to go PRO.
Extra tip: If you're a student, ask about exclusive promotions or giveaways… sometimes we run prizes just for you!
